I'm sure you already know this game. Today, we're going to talk about your clan!

My Clan: Born During Lockdown

A note before we start (2026):

I built and ran my clan for years, but I've since stepped away from the game. Clash Royale's War system has been reworked a few times since — some names have changed (you'll hear "Medals" and "Fame" instead of "points", "River Race" instead of the old war), and a few numbers are different. But here's the thing: the management principles below haven't aged a day. Recruiting, keeping people active, knowing when to be firm — that's timeless, whatever Supercell renames next. So take the mechanics as the spirit, not the letter, and the leadership advice as gospel 😏

Here's my little baby in Clash Royale! A clan I named after this very website... and that I created during the COVID-19 pandemic, because we were all working from home and, I admit, I had some spare time on my hands 😏 So my clan tag is #LR9L8C2L, and if you're an active War player, feel free to try to join.

Just don't join if you plan to sit idle — you'll be kicked without notice 😉 My own main account is clanless at the moment, because I went on holiday and decided not to let it sit idle in the clan. That way I show my clan that I hold myself to the same basic rules everyone else has to follow. Here's the link to my account.

In my absence — and honestly, even when I'm around — the leader of my clan is Nick the Great. Nick has been reliable for years: he plays regularly and even cleans the clan of inactive players. There's not a shred of doubt in my mind that I can trust him 👍 edit 2026: The good years of my clan are behind us... not sure it's still alive to be honest.

And there's our first lesson: you need people YOU CAN TRUST in your clan!

Reliable players who won't kick everyone the moment you promote them, people who love Clash Royale and play regularly — showing that your clan is ACTIVE! Because nothing kills a clan faster than signs of inactivity.

Here's an example of a clan showing signs of INACTIVITY...

Just to be clear, I have absolutely nothing against this Australian clan — but it's a perfect example of "clan management issues"! See all those red banners under the players' names? That's the perfect warning sign screaming: "Don't join this clan, nobody's playing and nobody's cleaning house!" 🙃

You're the leader... so act like one!

Playing the "nice guy" leader will get you nowhere. You'll just come across as:

1. A "desperate leader" — because you don't want to lose players, so you cling to them.
2. A "scared leader" — because you're afraid of how others will react.

Basically, your members will see you as someone with no backbone.

You don't want that, right? You want people to respect you, right?

Then understand this: respect doesn't come from being nice. It comes from showing you have a spine. A real leader isn't desperate about losing inactive members, and isn't scared of what others will think of them. The same principles can apply to real life if you're a leader or a manager, don't be the friend, be above that.

So it's high time you select all those inactive members and kick them, one by one!

Then you can drop a little "Did some cleaning, these players had been inactive for months" in the chat 😏

The Two Tools Every Leader Must Use Weekly

In the example above, we clearly saw a clan with zero management for months!

Yet there's a very useful function to remind everyone they're needed — actually two, and you can use both if you're at least a "Co-Leader". So only Leaders and Co-Leaders have access.

First: the Nudge button.

If you have a clan, you have to take part in War. If you don't, you can leave this page — I don't even know why you'd have a clan 🤣 If it's just to give the illusion of building something without ever doing anything together, don't bother.

Nudge is an essential function, only available during Wars.

You tap on each member's profile, one by one — that's what "management" means 😏 You'll see when they were last online, and if it's been 2 days or more, start tapping that Nudge button! It sends a notification straight to their phone.

On a weekly basis, you MUST Nudge every inactive member!

Yes, some players won't like it. Maybe they'll leave — and if they do? Good riddance. You don't need players who've drifted away from the game. Or maybe they'll complain in chat:

Stop nudging me, or stop sending me notifications!

Usually, they never say anything. Because you're the leader, so your clan, your rules! But if an inactive player does start to revolt in chat, don't hesitate to kick them with a little custom message, both in the kick note and in the chat, like:

Now you won't get notifications anymore 😏 bye bye!

Again, I'll keep repeating it: you do not want dead weight in your clan.

Second: the Clan Leader message.

The Clan Leader message is sent from your clan's home profile — a broadcast to the whole clan that lands in every player's in-game mailbox. The mailbox inside Clash Royale, that is... it's not going to their Gmail 🤣

Usually you send these once a week — don't overdo it. These messages are meant to be motivating!

Don't blame your members. Make them understand that taking part in War matters, that everyone gains in the process, and that participating — even losing — always beats not showing up at all 😇 Use these messages for words of wisdom, encouragement, and to show you're a good leader.

These are the kind of Clan Leader messages I used to send every week.

Keep your members motivated weekly, and you'll barely need the Nudge button.

Still, both tools are useful on a weekly basis.

When to Kick, and When to Stay Silent

Also — when you need to kick someone, you don't need to "act tough" and argue over several messages.

Most of the time, stay silent and just do what you have to: nudge, kick. Because when new players join (after you invited them, obviously 😏), if they scroll up and see a chat history full of people arguing and insulting each other, they'll leave in no time!

Who wants to stay somewhere people are fighting among themselves? Nobody.

So keep your chat messages limited. Let players have their fun — but not too much. Find the right balance.

The clan chat is not a trash bin.

If some players start spamming 30 emotes in a row, flooding the whole chat with junk, warn them or simply kick them, like I do — because those players clearly need to spend more time on their messaging apps than in your clan.

Here's an example:

This player, "levent", used to spam the chat with emotes — literally 60 lines of them! I didn't say a word, but I started thinking he wasn't a good fit. And when I began kicking another member, he dropped one final emote and left, along with another guy. Good riddance — neither was really active in War, so their two spots got filled by better players.

As you can see, I said nothing on the right — just kicked an inactive player.

You don't need to justify every one of your actions. Again: you're the leader. If your members trust that you're a good one, they know you know what you're doing — no explanations needed.

How to Actually Recruit Good Players

Now let's say your clan is new, or needs fresh members. Where do you find them?

Before you answer...

Never, EVER post on a forum, Reddit, or any Clash Royale thread saying "Join my clan blah blah"! Come on, guys... it screams "desperate"! And honestly, nobody cares about forum recruitment posts anyway.

No — the best way is by fighting in 1v1 or 2v2!

After the match, check the profiles of the players you fought with or against, and if you like their stats (because obviously you're not inviting people with too few trophies), invite them!

Even if you lost. Yes! Put your ego aside — a real leader knows when to forget his pride.

I got destroyed by a player, checked his profile, liked it... then invited him 😎

Honestly, the best way to grow your clan is to fight against the players you want.

The best players in Clash Royale have learned to put their ago aside, that's how they became the best!

You can also tap "Tournaments" on the Clash Royale home page, search for letters (a, b, c, d) or numbers (1, 2, 3, 4), and it'll show a list of FREE tournaments. You can browse them and their player lists — even without joining — then invite any player with no crest (meaning no clan).

Well... most of the time their mailboxes will be full, and if so, you won't be able to invite them.

But honestly, stick to 1v1 or 2v2. I've invited hundreds of players from tournaments over the years, and the ones who actually stick around are the ones you truly fought with or against.

The rest leave fast. So tournament recruiting is time-consuming and, in the end, not very effective.

One more important thing:

Please don't BM (Bad Manners) during matches! Nobody will accept an invite from a jerk.

In Clash Royale, MANY players can't handle defeat! You'll need to show them that you embrace defeat — because defeat means experience, and only those who embrace it get stronger.

It also shows you're wise enough to know that "there will always be someone stronger than you" — and that by inviting them, you want good players in your clan, not just the ones you managed to beat.

Rule of thumb: don't emote every 5 seconds in battle. It only shows you're nervous.

Players confident in their skills, who can manage their nerves and stress, don't need emotes.

Most even disable them, because they're distracting in a fight — especially when several people are spectating and everyone starts spamming emotes left and right.

And don't spam "Good game" every 5 seconds either, especially right after taking heavy damage. If it's truly a good game, say it once at the end. But spamming "Good game" mid-match just means you can't handle your stress.

War Day: The Boat Battle Tricks

Edit 2026 : Again this Guide is old, maybe these War Tricks are no longer useful.

Okay, now let's talk about War and a few things you should know.

First, an obvious one: fill all the defense slots on your boat — and fill them with your strongest teammates. A defense is obviously more effective with level 15 cards than with level 13. That's also why you should only invite players who've reached a certain trophy level, ensuring their cards are strong enough to make a difference in War.

My main account has level 15 cards, so I can even put myself in first position.

When you attack other clans' boats, DON'T DESTROY ALL THE TOWERS AT ONCE!

Why? Because you get the same reward whether you destroy 1, 2, or 3 towers 😅

Yeah, I know it's strange... or maybe it's intended. But the point is: when you attack another boat — and I always encourage every player to do it, because it's basically stress-free (it's against the computer) — focus on one tower at a time. If you have more attacks in stock (up to 4 per day), you can start chipping away at another tower, making your next attacks easier and easier. But always remember: destroying more than one tower in a single attack won't earn you more medals!

The logic is simple: even a player who launches his 4 attacks just to lose — because he's short on time — still brings medals to the clan. And I'd rather keep a player who participates even just to lose 4 times, bringing medals to the pot, than someone who says he "doesn't have time" and does nothing. (His ego is just too big to send his cards to their death 4 times in a row 😏)

Always focus and destroy a max of 1 tower, then just damage the others.

After every cannon destroyed, click the close button to get your rewards.

Finally, on the War page, it's important each week to check who's participating and who never does.

You can easily see this in the "Past Wars" tab, then tap the "Info" button of each previous war. You'll quickly spot the slackers and the players worth keeping.

The Real Lesson: Slackers Poison Everything

Clan management is what keeps the best players around!

Because at some point, the players who grind hard in War won't understand why you keep members who help zero. And here it becomes exactly like real life in a company: slackers create a toxic environment by not doing their share, and the hard workers notice. In real life, people quit those companies. In Clash Royale, they leave your clan.

So from time to time, you need to make an example of these slackers by kicking them, one by one.

One or two slackers kicked per week is a good pace — don't kick them all at once if you have many. You need to make sure they're replaced by inviting new people, and you never know if invites will be accepted. Plus, kicking too many players in one blow — even slackers — can sometimes be perceived negatively by the rest. As a leader, you need to find the right balance in everything you do. Good luck with your Clash Royale clan! 🤟
