Why You Should Complete Your Mentorship as Early as Possible
For Your Information: this article was last updated on July 11, 2026, revised and corrected by Claude.
In EU, the sooner you find a Mentor to complete your Mentorship, the better! Personally, I graduated in a little under 2 weeks, when the average time for a player is about 1 month. If you read the previous part, you know I was level 15 when I came back to the game, so I already had a lot of skill points from the past — which actually made my Mentorship longer than if I'd started from scratch a few hours earlier...
The sooner, the better:
EU is all about skill points... and the more you gain in one area, the longer it takes to gain more in that same specific domain. When you hunt mobs (monsters), the most useful skill to complete your Mentorship faster is Anatomy. So if you're level 1, you'll gain Anatomy points VERY fast! But if you're level 15, they'll come more slowly... And if you're higher than that, brace yourself for a long Mentorship! 😤
That's why I'll never say it enough: the sooner you find a Mentor, the better!
So what is Mentorship?
It's like real life: you choose to become the Disciple of a Mentor — like a Jedi Padawan, if you prefer! But the difference is you don't have to follow your Jedi everywhere. No, no! You just have to team up once with your Mentor for 10 seconds to kill a creature together, and for the rest of the Mentorship you're 100% independent!
You see, some players don't want a Mentor because they think they'll have to follow the Mentor's lead and do everything they're told. It's absolutely not like that! The Mentor is there to answer all your questions about the game, but you'll never have to stick by their side! And besides, Mentors have their own lives... 😏
How to Find a Mentor and Track Your 3 Badges
To find a Mentor, open the Action Library, search for Mentor Register, and you'll see the full list of Mentors. You can look for anyone — or for me: Marco Magnifico Schiffano — and then send a Mentorship request.
If your Mentor accepts, go back to the Action Library and this time search for Mentoring.
Now you'll see your Progress Window (as shown in the screenshot below), with a Skill Progress bar from 0 to 100% and 3 badges you need to earn in order to graduate.
- The Hunting Badge: just team up once with your Mentor, kill 1 mob, and you're good.
- The Mining Badge: just find ores or energy matter once, with a mining tool.
- The Construction Badge: just craft 1 thing on a manufacturing machine (like a Basic Filter).
These 3 badges are very easy and fast to get; the longer part will be the Skill Progress bar. Basically, you need to earn points in Hunting, Mining or Construction skills to make it progress toward 100%. And as a new player, you won't be putting your money into Mining or Construction, because you'd be ruined in 30 minutes! 😆
So the only real choice left is to hunt and kill monsters! And Anatomy is the skill that will push the bar up!
I completed my Mentorship in under 2 weeks, but I was unemployed at the time, so I had a lot of free time. I played A LOT — up to 12 hours a day. But I'd never ask a disciple of mine to do the same; that was just my situation. And by the end, I'd played so much in such a short window that I was completely sick of it.
Still, I do ask my disciples to finish their Mentorship within a 2-month time frame.
That's more than enough even for a casual player. If it takes you longer than that, it means you don't really care about Entropia Universe — and in that case, I'd rather mentor someone else. If you only log in once a week, please don't ask me to mentor you... It'll be a waste of time for both of us.
Here's the screenshot below to find me:
The first screenshot was from 2021; since then I've graduated 5 disciples successfully.
In the Mentor Register window, type Marco in the search box and you should easily find me — Marco Magnifico Schiffano, my avatar's name (and Marco, my real first name 😊). Click on my profile, read the details at the bottom, then click the Request button at the bottom right.
I'll accept your request and you'll become my disciple! A Mentor is there to help you start the game and guide you... like I've already begun to do with this Entropia Universe Beginners Guide!
But let's be honest... if there was nothing to gain, no one would care about Mentoring!
Mentorship Rewards: What the Disciple and the Mentor Really Get
Just so you know from the start: a Mentor isn't there to give you free stuff — it's guidance!
Remember, we all play with our real money, and like in real life, we don't just hand our money to others!
Now, some of us Mentors do give a few basic things — small blueprints, or pieces of armor we don't really need. But don't count on it too much. The real rewards come once you've completed your graduation: you'll receive a full Armor set and a Vehicle!
Most Mentors won't give you anything extra... But I'm the kind of Mentor who always gave 1 free pet to my disciples once they completed their Mentorship, plus several free blueprints. I'm a crafter of explosive projectiles, so I have hundreds of free blueprints to hand out. I even give free newbie weapons when I find them on Monria...
When you finish your Mentorship, take a look below! 😍
Your graduation gifts will appear as if you'd hit a Hall of Fame! 😎
The armor you see on the 2nd screenshot is what you get if you graduate on Calypso. But the armor differs on every planet! And if, like me, you graduate on Next Island (which I recommend!), you'll get the coolest armor in the game, shown below.
It's called the Atlas Armor.
Even if you started on Calypso, you can come to NI to finish your Mentorship.
So as a rule of thumb, before reaching 100% on your progress bar, make sure you're on the right planet!
Important — there's a known bug that I ran into, and it explains all the screenshots above! I graduated on Next Island but received the Calypso armor instead of the Atlas. So I filed a Support Case with MindArk, and 3–4 days later they swapped my Adjusted Pixie Armor for the sleek white Atlas Armor from NI. 👍
Mentoring is one of MindArk's ways to attract and retain new players — think of it as rewarding people who get active in the game. Everyone wins from this system: you get your free graduation gear (the disciple's armor set is worth roughly 30 PED in TT value, though its real value climbs higher on some planets), the Mentor gets a random Mentor Edition item (often a single piece of armor, sometimes worth far more), and MindArk gets a new active player in their database.
It's a Win-Win-Win on all 3 sides. Also, at the end of your Mentorship, don't forget to give me 5 STARS! — I'll have an extra bonus gift for you if you do 😏 (yep, the free pet I mentioned above!)
I Won't Babysit You — But Don't Beg Me Either
Don't worry about becoming a disciple...
I'm not going to be on your back 24/7... not at all, lol! 😆
You live your life on EU however you want, and I'll live mine! I'll answer your questions if I can, and give you some guidance if you want it... But I'll never judge you, and I'll never tell you "do it my way!". No — I want you to have a good experience of the game, I want you to enjoy it, I don't want this Mentorship to feel like a constraint.
We just have to team up once to kill a creature, and then, if you're a very independent person, that suits me fine!
Just... don't beg me for money, gear or anything else — or I'll stop mentoring you.
Now, be very careful about the Mentor you choose:
- Be wary of Society Leaders from big societies who use their leader status to collect disciples... (optional read below: the story of matisyahu dllr root from Deus Vult)
- Be wary of Mentors who put a smiley at the end of every sentence... (like Root)
- Be wary of Mentors who claim they can mentor you without first asking about your needs!
My own Mentor was Root, the society leader of Deus Vult, and honestly, he was useless to me.
These guys often just use their notoriety as Guild Leaders to grab more disciples for the free rewards. He never really cared about "what I actually needed" — he just served me the same speech he gave all his other disciples. But there was one thing he cared about a lot: getting his 5 stars by the end of the Mentorship!
He used smileys all the time... but when it came to that "5-star topic", oh boy — no more smileys! 😆
When you have a Mentor like matisyahu dllr root who doesn't really care about you, who hands you a list of advice without ever asking what you actually need... then you already know your Mentorship will bring you nothing.
So I left Deus Vult, because I saw the same behavior in other members. They liked to brag, to tell their life story even when nobody cared, to give advice even when no one asked. Every time I saw a Deus Vult member, I braced for trouble. It comes down to hierarchy: when the leadership sets a poor example, the members follow it.
As for asking disciples about their needs... I remember one day a guy at the sweat gathering circle was looking for a new Mentor, so I messaged him: "Hey, what are you looking for in a Mentor?"
The guy replied a few minutes later, telling me I was too late because someone else had messaged him faster. So he took the first person who reached out, without ever checking whether they'd actually suit his needs... The Disciple/Mentor relationship should matter more than "whoever messaged you first".
My Own Track Record as a Mentor
To this day I've successfully mentored 5 players, and they all gave me 5 stars.
I should be at 7 successful graduations, but 2 disciples left the game near 90% completion. So I simply removed them from my mentoring list — I don't want to hold on to people who've stopped playing in the hope they'll reconnect one day. That's why I always tell my disciples I expect them to finish the job in 2 months.
I'm not the kind of person who hopes for a better day... I'm the kind who acts to make one happen.
I also turned down 2 other players who wanted me to mentor them. The first seemed genuinely unstable, and the second wasn't a good fit at all. 🤣 Not so rare in EU... Remember, gambling-driven games don't always attract people who are in a good place. Some like to brag, some are desperate, some are struggling with hard things in their lives...
But at the end of the day, all of these players left Entropia Universe — even the 5 who were very happy with my services. Because ultimately there's a player-retention problem with Entropia Universe, and that's MindArk's job to fix, not mine.
Optional Read: When Root Got Mad About What I Wrote
Root, the leader of Deus Vult, is a fragile person... and it seems this website ranks well on Google, because someone from his society came across this little text 😏 And so the little mouse ran off to tell the cat!
He didn't like it... not one bit! And it reminds me of a forum post where someone criticized an event Root's club was part of. One guy criticized it in just a line or two, saying it wasn't fair and wasn't well organized — and guess what? Root replied with a wall of text 😆 Seeing his reply, another forum user answered with a "constipated" anime gif 😜
I think it captured it perfectly: "Root is very fragile to criticism" — and maybe fragile in general? Perhaps a little worried about his reputation too... For some people, EU is their whole life 🤨
And besides, as a team leader (no idea how he got there, but whatever...), he likes to stay on his pedestal.
So on the 09/24/23 i logged to Hunt and received the following message...
"I am sure you are aware why i am writing to you... bla bla bla... you are trash talking me and my society.
I understand that you are not happy... bla bla bla...
The facts is i still provide you with the basics what to do and what not to do, which you wasnt interested in and you wanted to do alot of things a low level noob shouldn't do... bla bla bla...
I read you wanted me to ask you what you really need, just there, any player worth their salt in EU would role their eyes on that, a mentor provide you with what you should do... bla bla bla...
When i read it first i thought it was a joke or some teenager, then i saw you an grown ass man with a family and still behave and talk about people like this. As soon u left the soc we all forgot about you, and i recommend you do the same and move forward with your life.
I am way to old for any drama.
---
To this first wall of text, I replied that I was glad I'd hit a nerve, and that he was clearly as fragile as I'd thought — and that I'd taken a screenshot of his long message.)
--- then he continued with...
I feel sad that you an adult want to provoke, saden that you behave like this, i hope you find peace someday."
Optional Read: My Reply to Root, the "Leader" of Deus Vult
So I criticized his way of mentoring, and to him that was "trash talking". But I only criticized — check the dictionary, the two aren't the same. Trash talking would have been far more insulting, and if I'd actually done that, then yes, I'd have behaved like a teenager... or I'd have written a wall of text on the forum like Root did when something displeased him 😉 As for his society, I stand by my point: poor leadership breeds members who mirror the boss.
You also called me a "low-level noob"... Did you know that's a mark of disrespect toward a disciple? I never used that word with mine — because, as you put it, I try to act like a grown-up.
I'm sorry if mentoring properly feels too demanding, Root. I mentored too, and I always asked my disciples first what they actually needed. If you don't grasp that, and you roll your eyes because the challenge doesn't suit you, then maybe mentoring isn't for you — serving the same soup over and over simply doesn't work.
You're not learning from your mistakes, and in the end you only care about the 5 stars.
I'll let the "teenager" jab slide, along with your assumption that "if I talk to you this way, it's because I talk to everyone this way." That's exactly the kind of thing you claimed "only a teenager would do"... and yet here you are doing it. You say you're old enough to rise above drama and let criticism roll off — but the wall of text says otherwise. You created the drama, not me.
I love the line "as soon as you left the soc, we all forgot about you" — because I distinctly remember that when I left, Root sent me a message with a "sad" smiley 😔.
Reading Root's wall of text, it reads like those people online who recycle the same stock phrases for every situation life throws at them: "I tried to help you, you didn't listen, I'm sad for you." Convenient lines you can paste anywhere. But they don't make you look wise... they just make you look like someone reusing the same script over and over.
Root, I've been at peace for years. I've got bigger challenges in real life than your navel-gazing. And thank you for the unsolicited advice to "move forward with my life" 😏 — again, the kind of stock line people drop in Facebook comments thinking it wins the argument. But next time, take a look in the mirror: you might find it worthwhile to reflect on your own life too.
And thank you for your message — because it confirms I was right to write what I did about you and your society.
Back to You, Future Disciple
Now, back to you, dear reader and maybe future disciple of Entropia Universe.
If you're a future disciple (and no, I'll never think of you as a "low-level noob" the way Root put it) and you decide to take a Mentor, make sure to let them know they need to listen to your needs before serving you their usual soup. And don't hesitate to give a Mentor 1 star if you feel they were truly useless to you — as Root was to me.
You know, I gave Root 5 stars because I'm too nice (some would say too soft). I should have given him 1 star. I remember how important those 5 stars were to him! Oh, I'm sure he'd have been furious!

2,300+ hours in. I've earned this opinion.
I've graduated 5 disciples, been served the same useless soup by a "leader" Mentor, and I actually ask what you need before mentoring you. Think I'm wrong about how Mentorship really works in EU — or got a Root story of your own? Come tell me. I'll be right here.
