What Is the Mayhem? Entropia's Big Grinding Fest

For Your Information: this article was last updated on July 13, 2026, Revised and Corrected by Claude.

Among the usual dynamic events — like protecting Fort Lahar from robot attacks, or Fort Medusa (the same, but for more advanced players) — there's a global event called the Mayhem! The Mayhem is a Grinding Fest that every player can join, from any planet.

Press (and hold) the "interact" button until you see the little window below, then go to System and Event List.

Largegamer.com - entropia universe11

The Global Event List window opens (see below). Go to Global Instances on the left, select the Mayhem Annihilation matching your level on the right (the higher the number, the tougher it gets), double-click the line to open a smaller info window, then click Register and confirm. Once you do, you'll enter the instance — so be prepared!

Entropia Universe Beginners Guide Screenshot #81
Just follow the little process to enter.

Since 2021, the Mayhem instance is a SOLO one... Previously there was a "Team Competition", but MindArk realized more money would be spent if the experience felt relaxing rather than competitive. After all, we're in a disguised casino — and in casinos, players are relaxed in front of their slot machine.

You'll arrive in front of a statue (or whatever sits at the center of the instance), where the mission details are given. It's straightforward: the more mobs you kill, the further you advance through the Mayhem's stages, and the more rewards you get! And to make it even more addictive, there's a Trade Terminal and a Repair Terminal inside the instance...

It's designed for you to stay in as long as possible.

Here's the Merry Mayhem: regular mobs on the left, the boss on the right!

There used to be 4 Mayhems, now there are 3:

  • Merry Mayhem — December to January (you fight Daikibas)
  • Easter Mayhem — March to April (Eviscerator Robots)
  • Summer Mayhem was reworked into the Longtooth Migration / Summer Mayhem "Assault" event
  • Halloween Mayhem — October to November (zombies looking like Maffoids/Feffoids)

Basically, it's built to make you grind mobs for as long as possible!

There's a 5-hour timer every time you enter the Mayhem, but you can enter several times per day — and if you leave and come back (which happened to me when my computer crashed), the timer resets to 5 hours. Remember, EU is a casino, and the Mayhem is where they want you to SPEND A LOT of PED, because you're going to NEED A LOT OF AMMO! And someone has to pay for those nice MindArk employee bonuses, right? 😏

Categories, Missions and Bosses Explained

The Mayhem is open to anyone, as long as you have a weapon good enough for the smallest category. An Armatrix LR-10 — or better, an LR-15 — is about the smallest weapon you can comfortably kill with in the first category. Anything below that, and it'll take you ages to drop even the regular mobs...

Every 30–45 minutes, depending on your firepower, a boss spawns — either twice as strong, or 60–70% stronger than the usual mobs. So if you barely have enough firepower for the regular mobs, killing the boss won't be an option: you'll need a damage amplifier for the boss, or a second gun.

Entropia Universe Beginners Guide Screenshot #84Entropia Universe Beginners Guide Screenshot #85
The Easter Mayhem: regular robots on the left, its usual boss on the right!

When you start, you also choose a mission track: Bronze, Silver, Gold or Redulite. These missions don't define how tough the mobs are — that's set by the categories 1 to 10 from the event list. Categories define the mob levels inside the Mayhem, and you can switch category at any time.

But Bronze through Redulite can only be chosen once, and that choice defines how long your Mayhem will be, how many points you need to collect, and which rewards you'll unlock. Each track has ten reward thresholds, and Redulite takes FAR more time and money than Bronze. Careful: once you pick a mission, you can't restart or abandon it!

A useful mechanic to know: every time you score points, there's a chance for a Bonus Multiplier (5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1,000, 2,500). It's the little gambling thrill baked right into the mission progress — you might crawl for an hour, then a single x500 leaps you forward. Pure casino design, of course 😏

In my whole Entropian life, I only ever completed the Bronze and Silver missions. The Silver one took me around 45 hours! Which, for a casual player like me, was a real pain. I remember it like it was yesterday — I was jobless, literally falling asleep at my computer after killing the same mobs over and over for hours 😤

So Gold and Redulite are only for addicted players, or players making a living (or at least trying to) from EU. If you're a casual like me — and "casual" in EU already means playing 1 to 2 hours a day — go for Bronze! Only take Silver if you can carve out several 5-hour sessions in your life.

The Elephant in the Room: Macros and Bots

You should know that several high-level players (or Ubers) use third-party software to let their avatars play by themselves. By the end of the day, it's just a matter of having enough ammo loaded: you literally only press the "interact" button to fire at the nearest mob. So these players enter the instance with $1,000 of ammo on their avatar, activate the macro, and let it kill all day long... It's not a great look for gaming.

It just shows how deep gambling runs in EU. And it's not really enforced by MindArk, because by using these macros, those players are ALSO burning a lot of money in the process... and MindArk is a casino that loves money above all else 😏 So don't expect much action against macro users. (To be fair, MindArk's event rules do officially ban multi-accounting and "unfair advantage" software, with account termination threatened — but enforcement has always been the weak link, and only recently, after players shouted louder than usual, did it get any real attention.)

The Catch They All Share: Codex Forces You Back to Calypso

As I said, the Summer Mayhem is no more — it's now an event about killing Longtooths (say hello to Mama Longtooth!).

Entropia Universe Beginners Guide Screenshot #86
But all these events share one common catch...

MindArk forces players to be on Calypso to claim their Codex points! The Mayhem is advertised as a Global Instance you can access from any planet... so why on earth should we have to travel to Calypso to claim our points? Because of the eternal rivalry between MindArk and the Planet Partners.

Here's how it works: if you kill Mayhem creatures while on a planet other than Calypso, you'll see notifications that you've unlocked Codex — nice bonus skills to claim 😍 But in the Codex window, you'll only find the Codex of creatures tied to the planet you're physically on.

At first I didn't understand this and thought it was a bug, so I opened a support case, late at night, around 11 PM, explaining everything in detail. I went back in-game, and 5 minutes later, support had already answered!

Well i opened the case and was astonished by their answer you can see by clicking on the screenshot below !

Entropia Universe Beginners Guide Screenshot #91-2
Please travel all the way back to Calypso...

They literally told me it was normal! Back then, I had entered the instance from Next Island — and I was supposed to travel all the way from Next Island to Calypso just to claim 2 Codex rewards?! Whatever the reasoning at MindArk, it made no sense to me at all 😤 Because MindArk wants players to STAY on Calypso.

it's a way for them to keep the crowd (and its PED) on their own planet rather than on a Planet Partner world.

See, MindArk advertised EU as a nice cash cow to any company wanting to invest. So companies we call "Planet Partners" showed up with fresh ideas, invested a lot of money, and built their own planets.

Players can go wherever they like to play! But when you're not spending your PED on Calypso, you're spending it somewhere MindArk doesn't earn a cut... So MindArk did everything in its power to keep the mass of players on Calypso all year long 😏 Frankly, I wouldn't want to be in a Planet Partner's shoes — investing heavily only to see the platform holder quietly funnel everyone back to its own world must be a bitter pill.

This is the exact same pattern I described in the Auction House part: no universe-wide market, no cross-planet Codex — every design "choice" nudges you back toward Calypso. Once is a coincidence; twice is a strategy.

So they closed my support case and then i received a mail to note their work...

Entropia Universe Beginners Guide Screenshot #91-3
Well... you didn't think I was going to give them top marks, did you? 😏

Why the Mayhem Is Still Worth It

Still, the Mayhem is a useful grind fest to:

  1. Raise your Looter skills in Animal, Robot and Mutant
  2. Raise your overall combat skills
  3. And let high-level players / Ubers profit from these events (mostly off the lower-level players...)

Since you'll be shooting non-stop for hours, your avatar evolves very fast! It's even recommended to use Experience Pills during Mayhems to progress even quicker, and Loot Pills to reduce the number of mouse clicks 😜 These are intense sessions, so the less clicking, the better.

Entropia Universe Beginners Guide Screenshot #87Entropia Universe Beginners Guide Screenshot #88
The Halloween Mayhem: regular zombies on the left, zombie boss on the right!

During the Mayhem there are massive money fluctuations — so many that Globals and HOFs drop incredibly fast! It's like a casino with a hidden pool of money (a kind of gauge only the owners can see): once it's filled, the casino has made enough to release some back into the hands of a few lucky players 😍

During the Mayhem, so many players participate at once that the pool constantly overflows! You'll see Global and even HOF pop-ups firing every couple of seconds — sometimes you don't even have time to read one before the next replaces it! That's why so many players join the Mayhem while ALSO hunting other creatures during the event: they know jackpots will drop like flies, inside and outside the instance.

The 2025–2026 Mayhem Saga: How MindArk Broke It, Then Fixed It

This is a story worth telling in full, because it's a textbook example of a casino forgetting its own rules...

— and then remembering them.

Act 1 — The 2025 disaster. For a stretch in 2025 (peaking at that year's Halloween Mayhem), MindArk decided to turn the Mayhem into a "grind fest in the open". They removed the Category 1-to-10 instances, leaving only the "Survival" instance — and then you had to roam the open world to find creatures suited to your level. What a waste of time, when before you just clicked an instance and grinded your little mission all day!

But that wasn't the worst part... They also removed the Bronze, Silver, Gold and Redulite missions — the very missions that were the Mayhem's main incentive, handing out FREE Universal Ammo, Codex and goodies every time you reached a new threshold. Gone, entirely!

Whatever the thinking was at MindArk, this move was flat-out wrong. A casino NEEDS an incentive! Without little carrots to chase, there's no entertainment — and the result was brutal: the player turnout for that 2025 Halloween Mayhem was the smallest I'd seen in years. Putting the Mayhem in the open isn't the problem in itself (even if we all lose time finding a good spot); the real issue is removing the main incentive in a gambling MMORPG.

Act 2 — The two problems of the open world. Moving the old "Annihilation" grind into Calypso's open world created two headaches beyond the missing carrot:

  • You now share the zone with other players, which brought back kill-stealing — made worse by the bot/macro users who let their avatars fire 24/7 with no human input.
  • And with no mission thresholds, there was simply nothing to aim for beyond raw loot RNG.

Why did most players prefer the old Annihilation over Survival? Because Annihilation is relaxing — and let's be honest, EU is a game you play with essentially ONE button (the default "F" action key 😅). That's part of why we love it: it's a chill grind where you barely have to do anything to kill mobs! Survival, on the other hand, demands real concentration and climbing 25 increasingly brutal stages — it's really only attempted by high-level or Uber players. Take the 2026 Summer Mayhem "Assault": you fight through a ravine gauntlet, destroy Force Nexus stones to strip a boss's protection, all under a heat mechanic that debilitates you unless you find shade. Fun for hardcore players — exhausting for casuals.

Act 3 — MindArk backpedals (the good news). Thankfully, still in 2025, MindArk reversed course during the Halloween Mayhem, reintroducing the Bronze-to-Redulite mission tracks and their threshold rewards — the carrot was back! And I can now confirm the fix stuck: as of the 2026 Mayhems (Merry, Easter and beyond), the Annihilation instances are back too, with the ten Category instances AND the four mission tracks, each with its ten reward thresholds. On Calypso you also get Free-for-All (FFA) instances accessed via dedicated NPCs (like Santa's Little Helper during Merry Mayhem), giving open-style grinding for those who want it — the best of both worlds.

The lesson? A gambling game lives and dies by its incentives. MindArk learned it the hard way, watched its Mayhem empty out, and walked it all back. So today the Mayhem is healthy again: instanced Annihilation for the relaxed grinders, Survival/Assault for the hardcore, FFA for the free-roamers, and the carrot-laden mission tracks for everyone. Just don't hold your breath waiting for them to fix the Codex-on-Calypso nonsense 😏

You Don't Need the Mayhem to Grind: Other Grind Fests

There are also plenty of other grind fests in the form of quests. It depends on the planet, but almost every planet has at least one mission requiring heavy grinding:

  • Next Island — kill thousands of creatures to unlock VIP access
  • Rocktropia — kill hundreds of thousands of Vixens (and Zombies) for its long-term missions
  • Monria — the Old Gods quests (like the Shoggoth / Old Ones' horns) can require thousands of kills
  • Crystal Palace Station — kill thousands of Aurli to pass a single door
  • Toulan — its own long chains of repeatable missions (remember Part 5: some Toulan dailies even reset hourly!)
  • Cyrene — mission chains tied to its weapons and lore, another grind-heavy planet

The point is: you don't need to wait for the Mayhem event to grind in EU 😏 If your goal is to raise skills or chase a specific reward, there's a grind fest running somewhere every single day of the year.

Calypso also has its secret grinding mission at Fort Medusa:

Entropia Universe Beginners Guide Screenshot #89
Die and Supply — a rare grind mission on Calypso.

Die and Supply: a rare mission at Fort Medusa on Calypso, normally only given to players who regularly do the Daily mission there. I only got it 6 or 7 times in 4 years of doing the dailies! It asks you to kill A LOT of mobs — but not only that: it also requires many items to "resupply Fort Medusa", which you'll have to buy from the auctions or get crafted by a seller at a good price.

Entropia Universe Beginners Guide Screenshot #90Entropia Universe Beginners Guide Screenshot #91
Handing over all the items — but the reward is worth it! Generally around 200 PED profit.

These missions take a lot of time, and of course we also pay for the entertainment along the way...

Still, even if 200 PED profit is only about $20 — not that big a deal — in a video game where entertainment should come first, it's always nice to know you managed to make some profit.

And EU remains the only virtual game in the world where you can make a profit and then withdraw it... assuming everything goes as planned and you're not stopped by support 🤨 But we'll talk more about that later.

2,300+ hours in. I've earned this opinion.

In 2025 MindArk pulled the carrots out of its own casino and watched the Mayhem empty out — then quietly put them back. I ground the Silver mission for 45 hours, so trust me: a slot machine with no jackpot is just a job. Disagree? Come tell me. I'll be right here.
