Demon's Souls was originally released in 2009 on Playstation 3 as an exclusivity, so nothing for pc users . 

The version i am reviewing today is the original using the RPCS3 Emulator !

Demon's Souls is the game which started the whole souls genre !

Since then there have been multiple games, successful or not, surfing on the soulslike and based on the Die and Retry ! The list is quite long… so here is a short one.

1. Dark Souls series
2. Lords of the Fallen
3. The Surge series (Very good german alternative !)
4. Immortal Unchained (Original Dark Souls with guns)
5. Steelrising (French attempt… Good but too easy)
6. Lies of P (Korean Souls with impressive reviews)

And frankly still several years ago, if you had asked on forums when Demon's Souls could be played by pc users ? you would have got answers like “better buy a subscription to playstation store, and stream it” or “don't dream, it will never happen”.

Well… RPCS3 happened ! And now owners of premium gaming computers can enjoy many PS3 games on pc. Yeah… you still need a very good gaming pc 😅

First i'd like to express my thanks to all the developers involved in the creation of RPCS3 Emulator !

I have put the link at the top of this page, as it's a honor for me to speak of such an accomplishment !

Second thing is, i am glad to have left my virtual addiction called Entropia Universe ! If you followed me before on this website, you know i was playing to EU since 3 years +, but recently managed to severe my link to it. It proved a very good decision as i finally found the time to enjoy other virtual entertainements like… Demon's Souls ! 😍

So basically if you want to play Demon's Souls on your PC, you need 3 things.

1. A powerful gaming computer.
2. the RPCS3 Emulator (link at the top of this page).
3. the Demon's Souls ISO file of the game. (can be found on P2P Torrents).

Alternatively, for those who don't know him… Fitgirl have created a Repack that you just need to install.

Yeah Him, because it's a MAN like all repackers… Actually even the famous hacker Empress IS ALSO a MAN 😏 Always make me laugh when people on forums are calling him a SHE 🤣 One day he said that he was a HOT Girl blablabla… yeah sure ! Just because he cracked Denuvo doesn't mean you have to believe everything!

Anyway back to the Demons Souls subject !

Emulating a console always required a much more stronger system, that's why if you don't have a powerful gaming computer, you won't be able to experience an emulated game at 60 FPS without lag / slowdowns. And still you have to know that to this date, aproximately 75% of playstation 3 games can be completed from beginning to the end with RPCS3. That means 25% still can't be played, but fortunately Demon's Souls is part of the 75% as it runs perfectly ! 😘

For those who never played to a Souls Like, it's all about challenging the player ! As an example in every souls (or most of them) There is like an Impossible fight at the beginning of each of these games 😅 It's designed to make you lose… But in fact it's possible for players to win it ! Absolutely not necessary… But if you want to prove what you're made of, you can spend some time restarting the game until you managed to kill this “Tutorial” Boss.

In Demon's Souls the optional Tutorial Boss is the Vanguard (defeated him 😘)

Souls Like games are all about impossible odds ! You always have to face situations where you're likely going to die ! But… There is always a way to prevail, always a way to turn the situation to your advantage. Most players when they encounter a boss for the first time are going to think… “What the fuck is that shit ??!? How i am supposed to win ?!!“

But that's all the charm of this game, nobody is going to take you by the hand, you'll learn the hard way !

Now that it's said, you have to know that you'll have to touch to a few options in RPCS3.

• You can play to Demon's Souls without touching anything in RPCS3, but you'll quickly notice that the game is a little too Dark in some places. That's because you need to “Disable Dynamic Exposure“, and you can do that by clicking on the “Managing patches for this game” in RPCS3.
• But then you'll get another issue which is a Dark Screen when launching the game 😏 To fix that you need to go in the GPU options part of RPCS3, and activate the “Write Colors Buffer”.
• As for playing in 60 FPS instead of 30, it will also be in the “Managing patches” section, just apply and save.

Speaking about time… Demon's Souls is also known for its long runs from the nearest safe spot to the bosses… Meaning sometimes you'll literally have to run / fight your way for several minutes, before getting a new attempt at the boss ! And when you know a boss can kill you in seconds while you're trying to learn his / her patterns, it can get very frustrating ! Because in the end it's like you're spending more time running than learning how to fight the boss.

On PC there is a way… And it's something i found out years ago when playing to Dark Souls. When you are finally in front of the FOG gate before the boss, just quit the game. Then in your explorer windows, go where the savegames are located, copy paste the folder representing your save in another location in order to create a backup.

Now… when you'll be back, you'll re-appear in front of the fog, NO MORE frustrating run to do, and if you die… Just copy paste back your backup of the save on the original save location, and you'll re-appear again and again at the Boss.

Seems like a Dire situation on the left, and many enemies on the right before the boss !

Some people would call that “cheating”… But it isn't… On the contrary it's useful in 3 situations.

1. No more frustrating runs and TIME LOST to get to the Boss, and it's not going to make them any easier.
2. There are situations in the game like when the Priest is killed by the Assassin you saved, and you're screwed because now you can't change your Faith spells (Miracles) anymore for the rest of the game ! A save backup will fix that 😎
3. If you're 46 years old like i am… You DON'T WANT to lose time anymore…

But then if you're playing Online, don't do it… I think it can get you banned. Only good for casual players like me who are playing offline. Otherwise if you play with your savegames, i think it can be detected by the online protection.

Demons Souls RPCS3 for PC Users

So you have to know that there are 5 different worlds in Demon's Souls, and just after you have killed the 1st boss of the first world you basically have access to everything. But the final battle located in World 1-4 (meaning the 4th area of the 1st world) will be locked out until you have completed every other Worlds.

You can do a little of everything, or you can also complete each world one after the other, it will be up to you. There is even a recommended order by the community if you look for it on reddit forums.

Personally i went for 1-1,1-2 then completed World 2, then back for 1-3 and a little of 1-4, before going back to complete World 3, World 4 and World 5… And finally went back for the final zone of 1-4.

Mindflayers can be a pain in the ass, and another Vanguard as a little boss in World 4-1 !

Regarding the weapons, there are different playstyles… You can go for the 1 handed or 2 handed weapon, and even wield a great sword in one hand ! It depends on your strength but also on your way to fight. Personally i went for the winged spear, which is far to be the most damaging weapon in game, but it is very fast and suited my own style.

You can also decide to block most attacks with a shield, or dodge if you feel more confident, or even use the riposte which is something that only people who have mastered the game can time perfectly in order to do A LOT OF DAMAGE ! I am not that kind of player… So i relied heavily on my shield and endurance level, and also a little on dodge.

Fighting on a ledge… Don't roll or you could fall, and one BIG but fairly easy boss 😅 !

Death in Souls games can't only happen in battles… Sometimes it's a stupid death by falling from a ledge… Or just if you were going upstairs in a big tower, and at some point you go a little too much astray… and Bing ! You fall ! 😤

Impressive Boss ! But again… particularly easy ! and seems the bridge is too small for both of us !

But i guess this the way to make us more patient in the end, because trust me there are bosses where you can't just go all in. You need to be patient, it's more like a Marathon than a 100 meters run! Don't play Usain Bolt in a souls game.

Demons Souls RPCS3 for PC Users

That is my character when i completed the game after 50+ hours of game ! Actually could have taken longer if i wasn't using the “savegame backup trick” ! I know i have read on reddit forums all the frustration of players having to run for like 10 minutes, just for another attempt at the world boss… For some players they literally lost hours of their time!

That was one hell of an experience, and loved every hour of it ! (well… mostly 😜)

One important thing is to always have less than 50% in “Equip Burden” ! That way you have access to Fast roll. Otherwise if you're too heavy on stuff, you'll only be able to slow “Fat roll” and that can kill you very fast, plus it's not fun at all.

Word of the end… It's great to see we can now emulate a playstation 3 and play 75% of existing games ! Sometimes there are glitches… and most of the time we have to tweak the GPU options, and install all the patches ! There is a great website to download all the patches PS3.aldostool.org, so here is the direct link to the patches.

Then in RPCS3 you just need to select all of the patches, by installing the .pkg files.

Actually it's even possible to emulate Playstation 4 games now ! 🤠

The emulator is ShadPS4 and have been developed by George Moralis, the Genius who previously worked on PCSX and PCSX2 (formerly Playstation and Playstation 2 Emulators). Though it's still under heavy development, but already have we seen that it's possible to play Bloodborne from beginning to the end ! And that's a great achievement !
