Well… I am here to help you on this matter ! as like you i had been away from EU for 11 long years 😮
And don't ask me why i came back to EU… I guess it's like you… You don't even know maybe ? Though i have noticed i was coming back to this game everytime i lost a job… So i lost my job twice in 14 years, and so i came back twice 😆 Maybe Entropia is a place where you go when you have something bad happening in real life ? 😏
Maybe we think we can win more money with what we acquired in real life ? anyway…

Let's now talk about the good part : What are the steps to recover your account ?
First of all you have to go on the official support page of MindArk to send them a message.
Here is below the message i sent on the 1st of August 2021
Between you and me… I didn't really care if my request was going to be successful. I had not played to Entropia Universe in 11 years, so it was just like throwing a bottle into the sea.
But actually… They answered nearly 2 months later on the 23rd of September 2021 🤣

Thank you for contacting us.
We have located an account with account holder name [ Marc Boucher ].
Unfortunately we will not be able to provide you with additional information regarding the account without verifying you as the rightful holder of the account.
In order to verify you as the rightful holder of the account, we must ask you to please attach front and back color copies of a current and valid photo ID, where all four corners are visible, and your full name, a document number, and your date of birth are clearly shown.
For example a Driver's License, Passport or National Identification Card, so we can verify that you are the rightful owner of this account.
We are aware that this is a complicated procedure, but we can assure you that it is in the interest of account security.

Well i wasn't expecting anything… So at least they had managed to recover the account 👍
Because after 2 months it really came out of the blue on my mail, i was really surprised 😅

and of course attached my French ID in BOTH JPG and PDF format.
Yes that's me,
not complicated i am myself in IT Security so i understand.
As i don't know if you prefer the ID card in PDF or JPG, i provided both.
If that's not good enough i can also provide my french passport / Driver License.
Just tell me if the following files are good enough for the identification.

So far so good, they managed to retrieve the account ! But with a mail address which was no longer existing… Fortunately in the same message, they said they could help me on that ! I think that was the only time i saw something related to Quality of Service coming from Mindark Support…
So i sent them the last message below 😊

After that i was able to access my account, and retrieved my old Avatar i had left 11 years ago !
But not with the same Inventory…

Now let's talk about the dark part : Are you going to retrieve everything you had when you left ?
There are 3 possibilities…
- You were away but not for several years, in that case everything should be there
- You were away like me for 11 years, in that case most of your gear have been sold to the auctions
- You were away for years and your password wasn't that strong… In that case you could have been hacked
rule of thumb : it's important to remind anyone that passwords should include letters, a few in CAPITAL, but also numbers and symbols like “!” or “?”. That's why my passwords have always been safe even before the use of MFA.
But it wasn't that bad… as I retrieved my account with several stacks of 10 peds in my inventory, which were the result of my old gear being sold in the auction as my account was flagged as “Inactive“. And as i had to re-learn everything from scratch, this money was a good thing for my lvl 15 avatar to take a fresh start 😎
As you can see in the screenshot below, these were the stacks of peds i had in my inventory.
A little less than 600 peds to restart over, lasted 1 month ! 😊
Unfortunately for other players, they're not always that lucky !
You have to be aware that as Entropia Universe is a Real Cash Economy, it also attracted people with hacking / cybersecurity skills who used them to empty accounts which were completely inactive. Players on EU are usually frustrated with the bad loots they get, as they used to think – like everyone else – that it was possible to make real money out of this game, and as a result most of them take a long break at some point…
Russian hackers took advantage of these frustrated behaviors going away for years… Of course, if there is no one logging on the account, they can begin to bruteforce their way into the specific account knowing they have all the time in the world to do it 😏 As an example here is a thread of a player who lost 4000 dollars this way.
You will notice the thread has been locked, because it's bad publicity for MindArk…
How do i know these are Russian Hackers ? Because i have been in contact with them via Telegram…
You have to know i have a background in hacking… mostly small hacking related to Video Games when i was younger, and No! i have never cracked Denuvo 🤣 But i'd like to try one day maybe with the game Wukong…
So there are like 2 or 3 well known russian hackers who are also playing to Entropia Universe.
They literally play like you and me, but on the side they also have other accounts to suck the peds out of all inactive accounts they manage to get access to. They use programs they built themselves to bruteforce their way in, or they also got the accounts / passwords from EntropiaLife, a very useful website but unfortunately from where a lot of accounts informations were leaked out. Security was crap on this website and still is…
And as many players made the mistake to use the very same logins / passwords they already used for the official game, then once this information was available to the russian hackers, they just tested all of these logins / passwords, and successfully sucked out tens of thousands of dollars from these inactive accounts.
Rule of thumb : NEVER use the same login / pass for different websites related to the same game. In case one is hacked and your infos are leaked out, then the bad guys will have access to the other websites you subscribed to.

Once the peds have been sucked out, how are the hackers converting them to Money ?
They can't just click the withdrawal button like anyone else… As you know or not, MindArk is actively investigating every withdrawals made by players. The official reason is for security, but the real reason is if all players were withdrawing all of their assets at the same time, MindArk could only cover 65% of them. So in the end, the support will try hard to prevent players from withdrawing their money, pushing them to the fault if they had to.
And so of course stolen peds would be quickly monitored by MindArk.
Hackers have to sell them via “marketplaces for virtual assets”, here are 2 of the most famous.
These forums are not only used by hackers but also by players who just want to sell their accounts, buy PEDS to a lower price than through the MindArk system, or who just want to buy virtual stuff with real money to become better ingame. A little like shops existing in many video games these days, but FunPay or EpicNPC are of course illegal…
MindArk know about these hackers activities… Though they never banned them…
ps. If you have been hacked by the russian guys i know, don't ask me for help… I have no control on them. The little world of hacking is not one you can reason with. if they managed to log on your entropia universe account, and transferred all the items / money to one of their accounts, only MindArk can do something for you.
You can't talk sense in someone who is out of the normal conventions. (But i can feel your loss)
ps2. MindArk will do nothing for you about this… why ? because these assets on inactive accounts are liabilities… If the hackers sell them via the marketplaces, they will sell them for 50% of their original value. So it's a loss for MindArk… But not as much as if the players were to retrieve their assets ! Because then… as a lack of Trust towards MindArk (and they would be right to think so!) They would potentially ask for a full withdrawal and MindArk would then have to pay the full price…
It's in their best interest to not do anything / not help anyone when it's about stolen peds…
