These Aren't Second-Rate Composers
First of all... if you're not a gamer, you might not realize that professional music artists have worked on video games. Composers like Trevor Morris, Inon Zur, or Jeremy Soule are renowned for their beautiful melodies, and for their work on both films and game soundtracks.
Video game soundtracks are NOT written by second-rate composers! Not at all... That's exactly why it's always surprising for a non-gamer to discover that such marvelous musical arrangements were made for "virtual entertainment".
I could also mention David Joiner (aka Talin), or Jan Paul Moorhead (RIP) for their marvelous work in the 80s and 90s — not forgetting Jeroen Tel, who did an incredible job in 1989 with one of the greatest "classic" medieval themes of all time in Iron Lord.

Why I Gathered All This Music
For the video game enthusiast that I am, it was only natural to collect the best game soundtracks over the years! I mean the ones I found the most beautiful, motivating, or sometimes dramatic... but always a real pleasure to listen to, depending on what I was doing — working, thinking, dreaming, relaxing...
So I decided to make this collection available here, with a little description each time of what the track was used for in the game. Most are in .MP3, a few in .OGG / .FLAC, and they're all equalized to the same volume. I hope you'll enjoy listening to them as much as I did!
Most of these soundtracks come from games released long ago, and sometimes from games completely unknown to the public! Many indie games are released every year, and some of them simply drown in the mass. My hope is that a few of these tracks will make you curious enough to discover — and support — the games and composers behind them.

- (classic) means the track may be in "MIDI" — that old-school synth sound.
